    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Henry E. Chandler, First Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Thiaucourt, France, September 15, 1918. Lieutenant Chandler fearlessly exposed himself to severe artillery and machine-gun fire and located machine-gun nests and sniper posts harassing his company and hindering its advance. He then led his platoon forward in the face of heavy fire and destroyed the nests.
