Home Town: Hoboken, NJ

  • General Orders No. 126, W.D., 1919

The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Henry L. Harris, Jr., First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy at the capture of Peruka-Utig’s Cotta, island of Jolo, Philippine Islands, May 3, 1905. Lieutenant Harris gallantly and fearlessly directed the movements of the most exposed part of the firing line, and, without regard for his personal safety, was the first man to enter the cotta, a stronghold of the enemy, where it was expected that a last stubborn stand would be made by the insurgents.
