    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Sergeant Henry Newman, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 13 July 1872, while serving with Company F, 5th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Whetstone Mountains, Arizona Territory. First Sergeant Newman and two companions covered the withdrawal of wounded comrades from the fire of an Apache band well concealed among rocks.
