The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Herbert A. Brown, Corporal, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Soissons, France, July 18, 1918. When his company was being swept by a withering machine-gun fire from a hidden nest Corporal Brown voluntarily made his way around the flank of the emplacement and attacked the crew.
