The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Captain (Infantry) Ira Hobart Evans, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 2 April 1865, while serving with Company B, 116th Colored Infantry, in action at Hatcher’s Run, Virginia. Captain Evans voluntarily passed between the lines, under a heavy fire from the enemy, and obtained important information.
