    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private James Bell, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 9 July 1876, while serving with Company E, 7th U.S. Infantry, in action at Big Horn, Montana. Private Bell carried dispatches to Brigadier General Crook at the imminent risk of his life.
