    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant James Drury, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 23 June 1864, while serving with Company C, 4th Vermont Infantry, in action at Weldon Railroad, Virginia. Sergeant Drury saved the colors of his regiment when it was surrounded by a much larger force of the enemy and after the greater part of the regiment had been killed or captured.
