Captain James R. Kent, 0420422, Infantry, United States Army. For gallantry in action at Wakde Island, Dutch New Guinea, on 18 May 1944. During the initial phases of the beach landing at Wakde Island troops became pinned down on the beach due to intense enemy fire. Captain Kent as battalion executive officer organized and directed all staff functions, supervised problems of supply, communications, evacuation, and administration. This was particularly outstanding inasmuch as it was carried on under constant enemy observation and subject to heavy enemy fire. Captain Kent’s cool, clear thinking, his unselfish devotion to duty and complete disregard for his safety were a great contribution to the successful completion of his mission.
