    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant James T. Clancy, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 1 October 1864, while serving with Company C, 1st New Jersey Cavalry, in action at Vaughn Road, Virginia. Sergeant Clancy shot the Confederate General Dunovant dead during a charge, thus confusing the enemy and greatly aiding in his repulse.
