The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Jennings B. Browne, Bugler, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Fossoy, France, July 14 – 15, 1918. Bugler Browne exposed himself to heavy fire while carrying numerous messages during the heavy artillery preparation preceding the last German offensive. He was killed while acting as guide to a front-line platoon.
