Under the provisions of Army Regulations 600-45, as amended, a Silver Star Medal is awarded to: Jessie M. Nichols 34242365 FA, Private, Headquarters Battery, 59th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, for gallantry in action on 24 October 1944 near Rambervillers, France. When German artillery disrupted communications with his unit, Private Nichols moved through heavy hostile fire to find the break in the line. Enemy fire continued to fall in the area and Private Nichols was killed while repairing the line. His gallant conduct reflects much credit on the Army of the United States.
