    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to John Casey, Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 49th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action at Chateau-Thierry, France June 6, 1918. Although wounded during a counterattack, Sergeant Casey remained with his group, refusing to go to the rear or to accept medical attention until assured that the enemy had retired and that his men were properly dug in.
