The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Brigadier General John Cleveland Robinson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 8 May 1864, while serving with U.S. Volunteers, in action at Laurel Hill, Virginia. Brigadier General Robinson placed himself at the head of the leading brigade in a charge upon the enemy’s breastworks; was severely wounded.
