The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Corps of Engineers) John Clifford Hodges Lee, Sr. (ASN: 0-2582), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as G-2, Intelligence Officer, 82d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Richecourt, France, on the night of 12 – 13 July 1918, while leading a patrol which penetrated the enemy lines.
