    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to John H. Culnan, Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 49th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action at Chateau-Thierry, France, June 6, 1918. While assisting a wounded man to the rear, Sergeant Culnan was himself wounded in the head, but carried out his mission, succeeding in bringing the other wounded man to the dressing station.
