The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private John Johnson, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry on 13 December 1862, in battle in which he was severely wounded while serving with Company D, 2d Wisconsin Infantry, in action at Fredericksburg, Virginia. While serving as cannoneer Private Johnson manned the positions of fallen gunners.
