The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) John Moulder Wilson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 August 1862, while serving with U.S. Engineers, in action at Malvern Hill, Virginia. First Lieutenant Wilson remained on duty, while suffering from an acute illness and very weak, and participated in the action of that date. A few days previous he had been transferred to a staff corps, but preferred to remain until the close of the campaign, taking part in several actions.
