The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Julian W. Alsup, Private, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 78th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action at Blanc Mont, France, October 3, 1918. When the advance of their Company was held up by enfilading fire from a hostile machine-gun nest, Private Alsup, with three other soldiers, volunteered and made a flank attack on the nest with bombs and rifles, killing three members of the crew and capturing twenty-five others, together with three machine guns.
