The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Julius Jessee Bryson, First Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Bellicourt, France, September 27, 1918. Although wounded very severely in the knee by shrapnel, Sergeant Bryson remained in charge of his platoon for more than twenty-four hours, during a critical period of the operations. Due to his excellent example of courage, leadership and skill in handling them, his platoon successfully repelled a number of enemy attacks during this period of time.
