Kenneth E. Kearns
Silver Star
World War II
U.S. Army
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant Kenneth E. Kearns, Infantry, United States Army, for gallantry in action in Germany on 24 February 1945. Under the outstanding leadership of Lieutenant Kearns, two platoons of inexperienced non-commissioned officers and reinforcements routed the enemy on the field of battle. On one occasion, he boldly led a charge against the enemy position, captured seven strongly defended pillboxes and approximately 70 Germans, without the loss of a man. He then skillfully deployed his men and defended a front of 300 yards for a period of two days, repulsing numerous attacks with heavy losses to the enemy. Lieutenant Kearns’ inspiring initiative, courageous leadership and supreme devotion to duty reflect the highest of credit upon himself and the Army of the United States. Entered the military service from Shattuck, Oklahoma.
