Lawrence P. Bischoff, Jr.

  • Headquarters, Third U.S. Army, General Orders No. 147 (1945)

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lawrence P. Bischoff, Jr., First Lieutenant (Field Artillery), U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company C, 574th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, in action against enemy forces near Urbach, Germany on 12 April 1945. When the convoy he was protecting with anti-aircraft artillery was ambushed, First Lieutenant Bischoff exposed himself to hostile fire and organized a defense. During the fighting, he carried a wounded man to safety, drove two trucks to cover, and ran across a field swept by enemy fire to contact friendly tanks.
