    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Louis F. Timmerman, Jr., Second Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 83d Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the Bois-de-Belleau, France, on June 6, 1918. Second Lieutenant Timmerman led his men in. a bayonet charge against superior numbers of the enemy, capturing two machine-guns and seventeen prisoners. Wounded in the face by shrapnel, he continued to heroically perform his duties until relieved.
