The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Louis J. Crepeau, Private, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 55th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Belleau Wood, France, June 13, 1918. While carrying a message in the Bois-de-Belleau, Private Crepeau was surrounded by a detachment of Germans, who demanded his surrender. By his initiative and quick action he not only was able to return to our lines, but captured four of the Germans and brought them to our lines. He then selected a different route and delivered the message.
