The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Lowell Mason Maxham, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 3 May 1863, while serving with Company F, 7th Massachusetts Infantry, in action at Marye’s Heights, Fredericksburg, Virginia. _x000D_
Though severely wounded and in face of a deadly fire from the enemy at short range, Corporal Maxham rushed bravely forward and was among the first to enter the enemy’s works on the crest of Marye’s Heights and helped to plant his regimental colors there.
