Lyle J. Deffenbaugh

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lyle J. Deffenbaugh (0-288505), Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry), U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy in action against enemy forces on 4 and 5 January 1944. Lieutenant Colonel Deffenbaugh’s outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
