The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Manley Bradley, Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Nantillois, France, October 5, 1918. Sergeant Bradley was wounded in the head while leading his platoon across a valley swept by machine-gun fire, but he continued to lead his men on to their objective, refusing to report to the dressing station until he was ordered to do so.
