    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Marion Perry Maus, United States Army, for most distinguished gallantry in action with hostile Apaches led by Geronimo and Natchez, on 11 January 1886, while serving with 1st U.S. Infantry, in action at Rio Aros, Sierra Madre Mountains, Mexico.
