The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Maury Hill, Captain (Air Service), U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Conflans, France, November 2, 1918. While on a photographic mission of a particularly dangerous character, Captain Hill and his observer, Lieutenant John W. Cousins, were attacked by superior numbers of enemy pursuit planes. During the combat which ensued, his skill and coolness enabled his observer to destroy one of the enemy aircraft.
