Neil F. Dougherty

The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Neil F. Dougherty, First Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Bayonville, France, November 2, 1918. Displaying conspicuous leadership, Lieutenant Dougherty led his platoon against an enemy battery while it was in action. Through his skillful maneuvering forty-two prisoners, ten pieces of artillery and five machine-guns were captured.
