Niles Anderson

The Navy Cross is awarded to Chief Machinist Mate Niles Anderson, U.S. Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in entering a compartment full of steam after two unsuccessful attempts. Chief Machinist’s Mate Anderson, acting on his own initiative, used excellent judgment, and displayed evidence of self-forgetfulness and indifference to danger.
