Olaf J. Gullickson

The Navy Cross is awarded to Chief Boatswain’s Mate Olaf J. Gullickson, U.S. Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in command of the Armed Guard on the S.S. Norlina. For prompt action in an engagement at 6.30 p. m. on June 4, 1917, after the Norlina had been struck a glancing blow on the port side by an enemy torpedo, the crew opening fire on the submarine and hit the submarine twice when it disappeared.
