The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Oliver C. Farrant, Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 96th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the attack on Tigny, France, July 19, 1918. Sergeant Farrant led his section with remarkable coolness and courage in the advance under heavy fire of machine guns and artillery. He was severely wounded but continued to advance, thereby setting such an inspiring example to the men that they routed the enemy.
