Oliver D. Bernier

The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Oliver D. Bernier, Second Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Chateau-Thierry, France, June 6, 1918. Exposing himself to very heavy concentrated machine-gun and rifle fire, Lieutenant Bernier rushed ahead and broke down a strong wire fence, thereby preventing a delay in his progress and consequent exposure of his men to fire.
