The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star Medal to Orson G. Swindle, III (0-78193), Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action from 7 through 30 July 1969, while being held as a Prisoner of War. By his courage, aggressive fighting spirit and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, Lieutenant Colonel Swindle upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
