The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Oscar Jefferson Upham, United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism in action in the presence of the enemy at Peking, China, 21 July to 17 August 1900. Although under a heavy fire from the enemy during this period, Private Upham assisted in the erection of barricades.
