Paul Houston Currier
Silver Star
U.S. Navy
World War II
The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Paul Houston Currier, United States Naval Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while attached to the Third Marine division during the landing attack at Cape Torokina, Solomon Islands, on November 1, 1943. Disembarking from a landing craft under intense enemy fire, CURRIER rushed to the aid of our wounded on the beach. Realizing that persistent fire from a near-by jungle threatened the lives of the helpless men under his care, he quickly procured a submachine gun and, heroically disregarding his own life in behalf of his comrades, fearlessly charged the hazardous area alone, killing six attacking Japanese soldiers and returning to his tasK of treating and evacuating the wounded. CURRIER’s valiant conduct and unwavering devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
