Philip D. Reister
Silver Star
World War II
U.S. Army
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Captain Philip D. Reister, 0418869, Field Artillery, 311th Field Artillery, United States Army, for gallantry in action. On 27 June 1944, while serving as liaison officer with the 3rd Battalion, 314th Infantry, he organized an aid station and, despite heavy enemy artillery fire, supervised the care of wounded infantry personnel. Later, while the unit was still under fire, he assisted the battalion commander during an important period of reorganization, after most of the unit’s infantry officers had become casualties. Despite these added responsibilities his normal duties were performed with a high degree of zeal and efficiency. His timely assistance greatly aided the battalion attack, and his coolness under fire reflect highest credit upon the military forces of the United States.
