Philip W. Bigoney
Home Town: Brooklyn, NY
General Orders 64, W.D., 1919
The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Philip W. Bigoney, First Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Chateau-Diable, France, August 27, 1918, and September 8, 1918. With utter disregard for his own safety, First Sergeant Bigoney dressed the wounds of many of his comrades under the intense machine-gun and rifle fire from the enemy’s lines. On September 8 he rescued a wounded officer from a heavy barrage, carried him to a place of safety, and dressed his wounds.
