Raymond A. Parker

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 9 July 1918 (amended by act of 25 July 1963), has awarded the Silver Star to First Lieutenant Raymond A. Parker Company D, 3D Battalion, 7th Infantry for gallantry in action: while serving as a Platoon Leader with Company D, 3d Battalion, 7th Infantry, during combat operations on 4 July 1970 in the Republic of Vietnam. Acting alone and on his own initiative, First Lieutenant Parker let the Platoon perimeter to engage an enemy force moving out of sight through a ravine by throwing hand grenades on them. After exhausting his supply of hand grenades, he collected grenades rolled to him by his Soldiers to continue the engagement. Through his actions, First Lieutenant Parker disrupted a major enemy counter attack and caused a large number of enemy casualties. First Lieutenant Parker’s courageous action, initiative and exemplary devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military heroism, valor and gallantry and reflect great credit upon himself, the 199th Infantry Brigade and the United States Army.
