    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Raymond Gibson, Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 83d Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the Bois-de-Belleau, on June 8, 1918. Corporal Gibson handled, alone, a Chauchat rifle with such accuracy in the face of an extremely heavy fire that his platoon was enabled to move against the enemy machine-gun platoon.
