    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Richard Eugene Bowe (NSN:0-282877), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as Torpedo Data Computer Operator on board the U.S.S. CREVALLE (SS-291), during the SEVENTH War Patrol of that Submarine in the enemy-controlled waters of the Japan Sea Area, from 27 May to 5 July 1945. Exercising a keen understanding of fire control equipment, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bowe rendered valuable assistance to his commanding officer in penetrating strong anti-submarine barriers to launch attacks which resulted in the sinking three hostile freighters, one destroyer and two small craft, for a total of 8,500 tons. Continuing to render valiant service, he aided in evading severe enemy countermeasures. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bowe and the United States Naval Service.
