    The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Richard M. Strong (0-24594), Captain (Infantry), U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 12 September 1943. Captain Strong’s outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 45th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.

Strong (0-24594), Major (Infantry), U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces from 30 May 1944 to 1 June 1944. Major Strong’s outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 45th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
