    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Roy Wesley Chase, Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 80th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the Bois-de-Belleau, France, June 6, 1918. Corporal Chase assumed command of his platoon in the attack on enemy machine-gun positions in the Bois-de-Belleau, during which he and his men captured two machine guns and killed their crews. He did not retire from the action until all of his men had been killed or wounded.
