    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Samuel R. Brown, Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action November 9, 1918, near Moranville and Grimaucourt, France. After having been wounded in the afternoon of November 9, Sergeant Brown had his wound dressed and returned to his platoon through very heavy enemy artillery and machine-gun fire. When his platoon was relieved he returned to the former position through enemy artillery fire to the rescue of a wounded man and assisted him to the rear.
