The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Sandeau, Aspirant, French Army, for extraordinary heroism in action at Verst 455, North Russia, October 14, 1918. Aspirant Sandeau personally led a Franco-American section against a strongly fortified enemy position. The courage displayed by him while exposed to heavy machine-gun and rifle fire was an important factor in the successful attack.
