The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Solomon J. Hottenstine, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 19 August 1864, while serving with Company C, 107th Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Petersburg & Norfolk Railroad, Virginia. Private Hottenstine captured flag belonging to a North Carolina regiment, and through a ruse led them into the arms of Federal troops.
