The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Solomon L. Jeffers, First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action against insurgent forces, near Licuan, Luzon, Philippine Islands, January 25, 1900. With great gallantry and fearlessness Lieutenant Jeffers led seven men up a narrow trail against unknown numbers of the enemy, flanked their position, and killed or captured the entire number.
