The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant Sylvester Bonnaffon, Jr., United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 27 October 1864, while serving with Company G, 99th Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Boydton Plank Road, Virginia. First Lieutenant Bonnaffon checked the rout and rallied the troops of his command in the face of a terrible fire of musketry; was severely wounded.
