Vernon L. Shuart

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Vernon L. Shuart (ASN: 36452097), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 5 July 1944. When the advance squad of which Private Shuart was a member was halted, he requested permission to remain in position to locate the enemy. He then placed fire on the enemy and, by remaining in position, was killed.
