Walter F. Quillin
Silver Star
World War II
U.S. Army
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to First Lieutenant Walter F. Quillin, 01165324, Field Artillery, 310th Field Artillery Battalion, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy on 7 July 1944 in France. In order to more effectively direct artillery fire on an enemy weapon, Lieutenant Quillin, without regard for his own safety, moved into an exposed position in advance of the leading elements. He was severely wounded in the accomplishment of his mission but courageously continued to adjust fire until the enemy weapon was neutralized. His outstanding courage and gallantry under fire reflect highest credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States.
